mLab CodeTelligence, a Cape Town-based developer tools startup that uses static analysis to identify security vulnerabilities in codebases, has raised a $2.8 million seed round led by Naspers Foundry with participation from Futuregrowth Asset Management.

The company, founded in 2023 by former Derivco engineers Thando Mkhize and Sipho Nkosi, plans to use the funding to expand its engineering team and pursue admission to Y Combinator's Winter 2025 batch.

South Africa's developer tools ecosystem has produced several notable exits in recent years, including Sweep's acquisition by GitLab and OfferZen's growth to unicorn status. mLab is betting that the combination of world-class engineering talent and favorable exchange rates gives South African startups a structural cost advantage in the devtools market.
